Thursday 31st October 1816
On application of Fautleroy Lewis and John Moreland it is ordered
That a passport in the words following be granted, to wit - Colonel John Lewis of this place desiring again to renew his efforts to recover some absconded negroes, who he has reason to believe, are lurking in some part of the Province of East Florida, at this time, under the Command of his Excellency Josef Coppinger - Who persons have been appointed by him, the said Colo. Lewis to go in quest of the said negroes, viz. Fautleroy Lewis, his son, and Mr. John Morland [sic], who are charged with this recommendation to this Excellency the said Josef Coppinger, whose friendly aid in assisting the said persons to secure their said absconding slaves, if within the Government of East Florida is respectfully solicited.
